Tom Costa recently joined Hydrom on a secondment basis from Sohar Port and Freezone. At Hydrom, Tom relies on his expertise in industrial cluster development, utility and system integration, port development to support Hydrom in developing future-proof strategies to integrate the soon-to-be-awarded renewable energy blocks with the downstream activities at the special economic zones and industrial ports.

Tom is currently the Program Manager Energy & Industry in Sohar Port and Freezone’s Strategic Affairs Department. In this capacity, he is developing strategies for the deployment of green hydrogen activities, integration of renewables with industrial processes and identifying and implementing synergies that promote the sustainability of industries within Sohar Port and Freezone.

A Chemical Engineer from the University of Groningen and MBA candidate at Warwick Business School, he has a strong background in industrial process optimization and energy efficiency combined with a firm belief that today, more than ever, industries must embrace the energy transition to survive in a changing global market.

Tom brings his passion and dedication to both Hydrom and SOHAR Port to tackle some of the toughest industrial challenges, namely, how to decarbonize the industrial sector in Oman and reduce its dependency on fossil fuels. He is a strong advocate of innovation and integration of processes with renewables, constantly raising the bar for himself and his team, be it in exploring synergies, renewables, carbon capture and utilization and green hydrogen.
